Default [Q] what does the * mean next to wifi networks?

When I tether my xoom to my Inspire 4g, the network name has a (*) in front of it. Such as (*) barnacle. What does the * stand for?

Thanks...the reason I ask is because when I start Barnacle wifi tether I get that and tether works fine. If I start up portable hotspot in CM7 I don't get the * and tethering won't work. It will connect, but no web page will load.
