From what the post above me says, it's apparently not possible to do the unlock unless I have the AT&T SIM inserted. Is that right? Do I need to have the SIM?
I'm thinking of getting a locked Infuse 4G off of eBay, but I don't live in the US and if the locked phone can't be unlocked without an AT&T SIM or some other special juju, I'm better off paying him to do the unlock.
The seller has made me a counteroffer which I have about 45 hours to respond to , so I appreciate any help I can get.
TIA and especially thanks to lost1 for coming up with this.
Edit: Made my question clearer.
Don't have to use att sim card. I done it with Singapore sim card.
hi, i have a samsung infuse i just got today, i just successfully rooted it, but i'm not sure if it's network unlocked.
i need to unlock it in order to put a new sim card on it, otherwise i'd have to pay like $30 at some shady store where they say they can unlock it, but i'm really good with computers so i don't want to waste my money.
so anyways, i rooted it with the superoneclickv1.9.1 root method, real easy.
to try and unlock, but i am not sure if it worked since i don't have a sim card. i saw someone used a hex editor to edit some files in the root, but i didn't find any info on the location of the files or the fields to edit.
Nope. don't have to. So you bought your infuse? can't seem to pm you.
yeah just bought it yesterday, rooted and unlocked it yesterday. i didn't have a SIM card, that was the problem, but it was easy to do.
now the problem is making my phone able to access the 4G and 3G network from simple mobile...
since it's so new, and from ATT, it's not on simple mobile's 4G and 3G compatability list, so right now i'm on EDGE... >_<
i've done this before to my CDMA phones, i used qpst tools to change the epst settings for the phones and the APN's. but i don't know what all else goes into GSM phones, since i thought all the info was on the SIM card, didn't think there was a config needed...

yup tried those, they look the same as the ones on the Simple Mobile Website.
also i called simple mobile support to see if they could help me out since the phone is so new...
but they said that basically all ATT phones will never have 3G or 4G since they aren't compatible with the 1700 Hz freq that T-mobile uses.
Well on a sidenote, i called the guy i bought the phone from yesterday to exchange it for a G2x, but he said he could also flash my infuse to work with 3G and 4G, which i didin't think was possible. so i'm not sure what is going on, but i'll ask him to show me what he did exactly, since i like to use custom roms...
EDIT:
if anyone knows how to flash phones to simple mobile, please let me know
the g2x is nice, i liked it a lot, everything from GPS to call quality was excellent. I got pissed off at T-Mobile for lying about the UTMS bands(3g and 4g) though, so i switched to AT&T.
Hey, guys...just got back stateside from the Mediterranean (N. Africa), and bought my new Infuse. Haven't done squat to it yet, like I have to my Captivate. Question: Will all apps, ROMS, etc on my Captivate work on my Infuse??? Any ideas???
Thanks all...Chuck
First: Samsung Galaxy S Captivate SGH-I897
Second: Samsung Galaxy S Infuse SGH-I997
And now... Samsung Galaxy S Note SGH-I717
