I got ahead of myself, tried flashing SPeedmod kernel to get past the 3e recovery and now have a brand new phone that won't get past the boot screen.

yeah this thing isnt quite a galaxy s

if someone can point me to how to dump the kernel from the phone i would be willing to post it up. im not sure if that is possible or not. might need to wait for source code.

also what do you need to get around 3e for? there are no roms to flash yet. and the captivate update.zip root wont work on an infuse. there is already a known way to root without using recovery. and without the stock kernel what did you expect to do after you got ast 3e recovery?

i guess this wasnt thought through was it?

Download SGS Kernel Flasher from the market.
Open it up and hit "backup kernel". It should save it to a folder on your sd card.

email it as an attachment to Slappyjoker@yahoo.com.

It would be very much appreciated.

I did the same thing. For some reason I assumed Captivate ROMs would work here too.
Yay for dumb lack of oversight! If you get the kernel out of it, please let me know as well!

I figured it would look all wonkified but I also figured it would at least get the 3e recovery replaced with CM.

I can get the phone into download mode but no recovery of any kind comes up. I have also tried the "no reboot zimage flash' through ODIN but no cigar. It fails.

SGS Kernel Flasher doesn't recognize the phone. It installs but everything is locked up. Personally, I wanted to do what you did but decided I'd wait until I figured out how to get a clean kernel dump first.

Any other ideas? I'm eager to start hacking away but I don't want to screw anything up. Guess I might have to look into making a kitchen...

Did you install Clockwork Recovery? Were you still able to boot the device after? I have it installed but I've hesitated to push the install for the recovery mode (which is required to create the backup)...

Exactly how did you get to the state you're in now?
