Question [Q] Liberated Aria without gapps?

Hi,

Is there a possibility of having a CM-like Liberated Aria ROM, which does not include Facebook, GMail, Maps, Market?

Can gapps be flashed to liberated to avoid getting updates for gapps?
It is really annoying to see all this space eaten up by maps and facebook after getting updates.

Also, Can a new version of Liberated be released with the latest updates to Maps and Facebook, so as to avoid the updates in the data partition?

Which version of Liberated are you running? If it is Liberated Aria FR008 / Froyo 2.2, then I would take advantage of the DarkTremor A2SD feature that is built into the ROM. If you simply add an EXT3 partition to your SD card, then you would be able to move a lot of your downloaded apps to the SD card and free up quite a bit of space on the /data partition. I have about 30 Market apps downloads and installed and I still have over 85 MB free on /data.

I have never had an ext3 partition on my SD Card so I have the following question :
Do apps always go to the SD Card partition or one can specify where a particular app will reside, whether on SD or on phone?

If you choose the ext3 route the apps that you choose to save to the phone will go the ext3. Apps you save to the sd card will go to the main partition of your sd. Unfortunately with the DT a2sd process there is no way to choose which apps stay on the phone and which go to the ext3. System apps are excluded from this as they will always stay on the system partition.

Sent from my cm7 Aria.

So when I mount my SD card to PC I'll have an almost unusable Aria, with only basic functionalities? That doesn't sound good.

While that is true, how often do you mount the SD on your PC and then try to use apps on your phone at the same time? Can you give me an example of what or why you would need to do that? Inquiring minds what to know...

You are right. I guess I was being short-sighted.
Thanks for the help. But what about my suggestion? Can we have updated Facebook, Maps etc whenever these ROMs are updated? Can't this be done?

It's a lot of effort for something that only saves you a small amount of space until the next time there is an update for one of those apps. But also I don't see any reason you couldn't do it yourself by copying the updated apks into the zip file -- no need for Gene Poole to do it for you.

yepp dat can be done. I have never edited a rom till now so I was a bit hesitant. I can try that, doesn't seem too hard. If I am not mistaken, I just need to replace the respective apk with the latest one, is that right?

Also, thanks a lot for all the help. I really like xda and all the people here.

Well, actually, it occurred to me that Liberated 2.2.2 is an odexed ROM. I'm still a little unsure on how to properly deal with the odex files. I think that if you simply delete the odex file along with the apk, then add the new apk alone in their place, it should work. Maybe someone else who knows for sure can answer though.
