Developer unlocking Devices

Alright guys, after a little help.
I have a dev account which has a limit ( i think of 3 ? )
I have one phone, my colleague another so we have a spare. A friend of mine is on NODO and wants his live tiles fixed so i could technically unlock it, do the reg update and all would be good , except that wastes our last dev unlock which we wanted to keep spare in case one of our phones becomes faulty.

Is that how it works ? or can I unlock his device and then relock it when done, giving me back the extra device ?

If you login to your developer account and look at the device registration it should show you a list of phones and next to the phone there is an option to remove, that should work.
