Default I really want to get to charge over a tbolt but.....

When you compare the dev communities its kind of depressing. I know the charge has only been out about a week but still I'm coming from an incredible and the lack of support so far isnt too encouraging. I really want a charge over a thunderbolt but I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?

if you are really concerned about development...wait it out and see who else picks up the device

I am in the same boat. I know ED2 will be rooted eventually, and there is a way to easily get back to ED1, but I have a fear that the Charge will fall flat in the eyes of developers.

The Bolt has a 2 month lead, which is extremely important to note, but the battery life scares me away from it.

i dont think its the 2 month lead so much as several other factors that make the bolt more attractive to developers

1. its an htc phone....which up until recently was the most dev community friendly phone and a favorite of many...this has changed...but htc will always have a great following

2. it was the first lte phone...which in and of itself got people to burn upgrades quickly...especially when the unlimited lte ending in april rumor was going on

3. it fit will well into the upgrading period for many who previously had og droids and htc incs

4. samsung/verizon combo has a really bad reputation at this point

5. those who would consider another sammy vzw phone generally have fascinates...and its not worth upgrading to a charge from one frankly

I came from a tbolt. It was hard for me to change too! I was used to flashing roms every other day and like HTC for this reason. But I was having reception issues far too often. I also didn't know if I wanted a samsung again due to the lack of updates. But I figured if we get some good developers, that will fix that problem. All i can say, is that after installing a new launcher, the samsung is a much better experience to me.

Pros:
Screen!
real buttons and not capacitive (not everyone will agree)
Fast (browser has some problems with flash, but not many)
Reception (I have been on 4g every minute since i got this)
HDMI out
Battery life (compared to tbolt, had larger battery)

Cons:
Ugly UI (who ever thought of using orange and brown should be covered with acid. Themers get on it)

Samsung has said they will be better with updates, and also Google is enforcing this. Also, this is a flagship device for Verizon. For these reasons, I think we will see updates at a steadier pace.

That's it for now.

The brown/orange theme was probably designed by a fan of the Cleveland Browns (or Bengals).

The physical buttons are definitely better for me, coming from the DX.

This worries me as well.

I already upgraded to the Charge from an X, but have about 13 days to decide to keep it or take it back, I considered exchanging it for the Tbolt, but I might just keep my X till the next round of 4Gs, Im in Alabama and 4G isn't prevalent yet.

Im used to being able to flash roms with the X so its weird not having that available at this time. I mainly upgraded for the battery life and to go ahead and get my unlimited grandfathered in for 4G.

However, after 24 hours of using the thing. It is the smoothest operating machine I have ever had (Droid, Droid X previously) and I am liking it enough to possibly overlook the lack of roms at the moment, but we will see over the next week.

My suggestions; Charge owners pledge X amount of donations to which ever Dev gets on this first and helps us out. I have no problem paying them to give us some support, but me donating alone wouldn't be worth it.

As someone who just ditched their Thunderbolt after a month of hair pulling frustration, get the Charge. Hands down, get the Charge.
