Thankyou so much for this guide. i have unlocked my captivate 2.2, then i updated to 2.3.5 and its still unlocked. i also uninstalled titanium backup and galaxy s unlocker. just keep galaxy s unlock folder in SD.
So its good that we can update after unlock. Once again thanks for this useful guide.

I too upgraded two rooted & unlocked phones, from Android 2.2 to Gingerbread using Samsung Mini Kies. Started by unrooting one of the phones, but left the other rooted. In both cases, the upgrade resulted in the phone remaining unlocked after the upgrade. But the phone that was still rooted before the upgrade was no longer rooted afterward.

Hello.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Giorgio Armani which is the same hardware as the captivate from what I see on gsmarena.
Info is:
Model number: GT-i9010
firmware version: 2.2
baseband I9010XXJK9
kernel varsion 2.6.32.9 samsung@lech #1
build number: FROYO.XXJL1

Can I use the procedure from this topic for rooting the phone?

Sorry I have no idea whether or not it will work on other phones. I only tested it on the Samsung Captivate.

Thumbs up Re

I can confirm that I succeded rooting the Samsung Giorgio Armani yesterday with SuperOneClick.
At the first try I used the Root on Auto but the application locked itself around step #7 and I had to force close it.
So after this I remembered that I read in some topic that somebody used the neteuer method or something like that, so I started Root again with that method manually selected and it worked.
It actually says that the phone has 2.3 Android but it works.
I installed Titanium Backup and it works.
Also I installed ROM Manager and successfully made a backup to my ROM .

Still thinking that the phone is a little laggy, I installed OCLF (One Click Lag Fix) but it doesn't seem to speed it up as I expected.
Are there any ROM's based on 2.2 that are really snapy and which you would total recommend for a beginner?
Is it recommendable to install a ROM with the application ROM Manager after you copied the ROM onto the internal memory?
