I agree, that's the only thing that was stopping me from jumping to HTC. If they ota the unlock of the inc2, I'm getting 2; one for me and one for work.

Please HTC, go the distance and unlock the inc2....

Sent from my Droid1, 1.2Ghz Stable, Peter Alfonso v2 LV kernel, Gingerbread 2.3.3, Zepplinrox Supercharged phone using Xda Premium.

I just received a very nice and friendly personal email from HTC's CEO Peter Chou...he said that the reason they chose to lock newer devices down was, "to reduce the potential quality problem when users upgrade their phones."

I sent him a reply and asked if current shipped and unshipped locked down devices would be "unlocked" with future OTA updates. I'll let you know what he says if he responds.

xgunther - I'd be keen to see what the response is. Hopefully they will unlock the currently locked phones.

Would definitely be nice if they did, especially for the recently released phones. If they do, I don't see it being done until they release an update for other stuff.

That said, I doubt I'll let my DINC2 go even if it's only on new phones moving forward unless I really like something. I'm quite happy with this phone, even if it only does temp root at the moment.
Current: HTC Droid Incredible 2 and Motorola Droid 2 Global.

Former: Blackberry Bold 9700, iPhone 3G, HTC Fuze, Samsung Epix, Treo 750, Cingular 8525, Cingular 8125, Audiovox SMT5600, other non-important junk.

+1

This phone is a keeper, rooted or not. It definitely snuck in under the radar.
