NB: I think this question is best asked in faux's kernel thread.
I don't think anybody is trying to imitate an iPhone here, since this will wake the phone, not unlock it
The hardware button is, in my personal oppinion, located on a bad spot to operate it with my right hand, where I might drop it, whereas sweep2wake I can use my thumb while the phone rests firmly in my hand.
And the hardware button will be used a lot, and might eventually fail, this will protect it by using it a lot less.
(If you search faux's kernel thread, you'll find a way to disable sweep2wake.) Edit : Look at the link nyteblayde posted right above.
JP.
PS: I don't user seep2lock, I don't like the fact that settings in Go Launcher pop up, I use Widgetoid to put the phone in standby.
Agree on the power button, that is why I made a standalone Volume Key wake mod, or that function is also in the LeeDroid Tweaks package.
I highly doubt that this is possible since the buttons are capacitive. So sweep2wake can only be triggered by your fingers, not by friction or pressure
well, some ppl said in faux' thread that they have problems with their phone waking up in pocket.
i'd be more concerned about additional battery drain with sweep2wake. normally the keys are turned off when the phone is locked and in sleep mode, they don't respond to any touch input. with sweep2wake the hardware has to check for any touch input all the time.
i mean, many people turn off "pocket mode" for example to save some battery cause pocket mode turns on the sensors in phone as soon as you receive a call which drains additional battery in their opinion. but then they use sweep2wake which drains more battery too obviously (and all the time when your phone is locked/in sleep mode, not only when you receive a call).
