Question Touchscreen broken

Hi, my Wildfire's touchscreen was broken, so i ordered a new one. But by disassemling the phone, i ripped the cable for the button-backlight in two parts. So, i thought that it wouldn't be that bad, i assembled the phone and put it on, but the touch panel didn't work. HBOOT says "touch panel-fail".
I'm not really sure if the panel i ordered was the right one. I've got that phone from ebay and there was already an unoriginal panel built in, the seller has damaged the connector of the replacement panel.
So how can i find out if there has to be a panel with or without the IC in?
And can the backlight-thing be the problem or is the new screen just broken/the wrong type?
