It's not the voltage that is causing the slow charge, it's the amperage.

The Streak is similar to the iPhones and iPads in that it draws more than the ordinary PC or Hub USB port will supply. Normal PC USB ports are limited to 500mAh. Some hubs are known to supply 1,000mAh, but they're rare.

The iPad charger supplies 2,100mAh. The Streak 7 charger supplies 2,000mAh.

That's why the charger will charge up the Streak 7 much quicker than a PC or hub - roughly four times as fast.

I have a USB battery pack that provides 5vdc at 2700ma and when my streak 7 is plugged in, it does not charge after being plugged in for 20 minutes. But the streak battery gets down to 4% and holds for 3 more hours before totally dying. It's the voltage of the standard USB that is the biggest problem for an external power source. Normally u can plug a device into a battery pack like mine and recharge its battery. I use it a few times a week to recharge my phone. But the streak 7 needing 5.35 vdc means the best u can get is keeping it alive on an external source, but not actually recharge its internal battery.

I'm confused W.O.W. I was wondering where you got the 5.35v for charging the streak, so I went and grabbed my dell wall charger and my t-mobile car charger. The wall charger does in fact say that it is supplying 5.35v (at 2 amps)! (Sorry, I didn't believe you until I saw it for myself. )

The thing that I find very strange is that my streak charges just fine in the car with my T-Mobile Dell Streak 7 charger, and it only outputs 5.0v (at 1 amp).

So... I'm wondering why yours is giving you grief... Hmmm...?

How long does the Streak 7 take to recharge at that current? I'm guessing about 6 hours?

I haven't had the streak do a full charge in the car. But on my commute I get about 20% top-up from a 35 minute drive. So that should be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours for a full charge.

Oh how I long for the days when companies follow industry standards. And for the days when companies wait to put a product out until it was ready. * Hey Dell, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Barnes and Noble, how about a removable battery in the next series of 7" tablets*

So if we ignore the 500ma max for USB, and change it to whatever we like, we can cram all the current we like and still say it's USB? Ugh.
Thanks for the numbers

I'm gonna guess that the reason my battery pack only shows charging for 20ish minutes is cuz as it charges the Streak 7, it discharges, and after that time the voltage has dropped enough to not register as a charge, but since the electrons are still there, the tablet will consume them. In a car, the 5vdc from the charger is maintained by the cars charging system, so it never drops below.

It's the amperage for sure. The device will draw as much as it needs up to the max amount of amps the charger is rated for.

For example: If the device pulls up to say 750mAh when charging and you only supply 500mAh then charging will be slower. If the device will only pull 750mAh then throwing 2Amps won't do any better than a charger that will supply 750mAh.

How much draw the device will actually pull I do not know. Since the supplied charger is rated up to 2Amps then odds are the device will pull just under that.

You can get a high Amp car charger/usb adapter at RatShack: Model: 2730-501 | Catalog #: 270-057. I like at least 2Amps for my devices. This one is 2.5.

I mounted a home dock in my car and power it off of this adapter/charger. It works like a champ.

DO NOT throw more voltage at the unit then what is listed on the wall charger.
More Amps=Good
More Voltage=Smoking Tablet

I got this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M9Z5F6

I wanted to use it with my Eneloop batteries, but two units down and no dice. It'll charge for a couple of seconds and then die. I may simply opt for a refund.
