Question network indicator on the status tab

hi, i'm new on the dinc2, i'm from italy so , sorry for my english...

on my dinc2 , unlocked online, i use an italian sim card, all works perfectly, one thing are making me mad,

on the status bar never appear the indication of what kind of network i'm logged (gprs, 3g, umts, ...) but if i go in the specific menu i can see that i'm in umts or gprs...

can you help me to let it show n the status bar? thanks

without root, or even with it, I'm not sure this is possible, you can most likely find an app in the market that will tell you quickly what you are on.. or maybe even a widget from the market that says it. Also what is umts?

It's possible there are no indicators outside of CDMA technologies for whatever reason.

UMTS is a high speed GSM technology.

I am using mine in Qatar, same type network, and mine gets all of those icons in the status

Are you on a data plan? If you aren't connected to data, then you won't see those

This is a good point. These are data connection indicators afterall. My old Eris, being unregistered at this point, doesn't show a 3G connection despite the 3G radio being connected because it's not registered for data.
