[Q] huawei u8800 call drop issue

Hi,
Apologies for the long post.

I have a U8800 X5 on which I face GSM call issues, I am in India and am using a 2G SIM of Vodafone, after I rebooted the U8800 with the ROM - U8800 V100R001C17B160CUSTC17D002 – I can sometimes get the SIM card to be detected and can make & receive calls. After a while – say 3 to 4 hours later – though the phone shows full signal bar – I can’t make any outgoing call(after dial the number it abruptly ends the call) nor can receive from any other mobile – it gives phone not reachable message.
I thought it was a wrong ROM version and hence used the UPDATE.APP from u8800 build - U8800 V100R001C00B136SP03CUSTC151D002(India Channel) but after this version install the phone shows a screen “emergency calls only”.
If I use the UPDATE_CUST.APP – the phone hangs for more than 2 hrs in the updating screen (a black background screen with a progress bar in pink – not the pinky/purple screen).

Can someone help me upgrade everything on this phone including the RADIO, FW, image etc so that I have a brand new phone in terms of SW installed on it ??
I got this phone from someone who was running a very old ROM build.
And also suggest which ROM version suits my use on 2G networks (GSM-900) as well as any settings on the phone such as in mobile networks etc so that I can get a proper working phone, I love the U8800 because of its features but am disappointed that on my network I can’t make this phone camp all the time and make/receive calls…

I saw one strange behavior. the IMEI is shown as 0 on this phone after *#06#.
how can i change this ??

Can someone pls help me update everything on this phone including the baseband s/w.
I am new to Android phones and please send instructions to do the same ?? also where can i download the latest baseband, phone s/w images of this phone.

There is only a single baseband firmware for this phone at the moment and its 129005. So I can't imagine its that, maybe its got a defect?

Oh I see, yes i can see the baseband version as 129005 on my phone. Also have seen there are few files like amss.mbn and EMMCboot.mbn etc. maybe something is not right with these on my phone. can i get the latest working ones of these from somewhere ??

Also i dont see the HUAWEI logo when the phone re-starts but i see a GREEN background screen with two blocks of RED and BLUE after which the ANDROID screen comes and the phone boots up to the main screen.. Is something wrong with the boot.img or any such thing which is causing this ??

You can check the AMSS version by dialing *#*#2846579#*#* > ProjectMenu > Veneer information query > S/H version query.

EMMCBOOT.MBN and amss.mbn can be updated by flashing stock ROMs.
