Default Google maps voice change

This just hut me. TomTom and Garmin cab change their voices on their GPS. Why can't we do it on gmaps? How would thus be done?

TomTom and Garmin have a limited number of phrases, google uses road names etc in the maps

This has been discussed back with gmaps came out. They use tts text to speech.

The only way I can get the coive to change is by altering the system language. I prefer the UK everything except google searches that pull the .uk sites. After changing to UK the date will change to the dd/mm/yyyy format. The date/time wont change unless the system language is set to UK as well as the google maps nav voice...annoying bugs for sure.

On my evo 4g, I was able to change the voice through the tts settings. I had to install a tts service other than the stock one, and that service had voices you could pick from, including British voices. It worked fine through google maps.

The tts service I used was SVOX. In the end I think the Pico or whatever the stock one is had better pronunciation of most streets, but the SVOX ones were still pretty good.
