Smile Increase the power of WP7

If we could get Zune to accept AVI codec we would really have done something worthwhile.

i didnt even need to, it worked off the bat

you might be able to use the above to get MKV files to work though, ill give that a shot later

So to be clear, im using win 7 x64, HD2 running WP7, zune obviously, and the shark007 32 and 64 bit codec packs, zune had already detected the video files in the folder i setup and was happy to transcode them + sync it to the HD2, its playing without issues.

i tried modifying the registery to except MKV files but without success at the moment, i have a feeling its to do with MKV wrapper, simply put, you could have every codec installed in the world but it wont make any differnce if zune doesnt see it as a file format, zune just doesnt see them, IF we could get that bit it would automatically transcode them to WMV files, as for the resolution, theres little point playing anything above 720p

I need to see what the WMV files have been encoded too because there is also a very real chance the zune resizes them whist its transcoding them.

Seems like its impossible if my Google-Fu is up to scratch, need to convert MKV to AVI or WMV

theres something about making virtual AVI files, but i think that defeats the point, i wouldnt want to fart around with my MKV collection just to get it to play on a 4in screen.
