Default DVD to Iconia

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is pointless to encode your video file to 720p from a DVD source... All you will do is get blocks and artifacting as the transcoder tries to make up for the source.

DVD format is 720x480p (480p)...

Now, if your source is Blueray, then, yes, use the 720 and 1080 profiles, but, for DVD's I just don't see it.

Can you add a dvd profile to your post if you agree?, or, am I wrong?

I do like your post and give you kudos for posting it the way you did.

I messed with video way back when using cinema craft encoder and doing manual setup compressing formats to make SVCD's from DVD sources, back before blank dvd's were cheap.. SVCD's used a 480x480 format..

Aye, true enough. That has been a total brainfart on my end, gonna add a DVD-source preset there now!

Thanks for noticing, though!

Default a500 handbrake

This is strange must be something simple i am not seeing.
Used the dvd source settings above.
File is 1.7 gb and plays on pc after handbrake is done looks great!

I transfer to micro sd 32g and it wont open error message same thing on a500?
What causes this when copied to micro sd?

Did it earlier on the special features disc with other settings and it works 407mb?
Is it the size?

Im so close to this any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not the size. What error are you getting?

If I understand you correctly, the file does not play anymore after you've copied it to the microSD card without doing anything at all otherwise to it.

Well, if that's the case then either you have a faulty microSD card or you've bought a fake card and it's actually 1 gigabyte one and that breaks the video. In either case you should replace the card.

Default hd player for a500

Don't know if this is the right thread or not but I installed
MoboPlayer v1.2.155.apk (free download) and now I can play .avi .wmv.mp4.
with no problems. does not require any recoding or anything. Just install app and any movies I put on 16gb stick. will play.

hope this helps

Entirely different thing, mate. First of all, try playing 1080p video and you'll definitely see jerky video. Secondly, try putting a 30GB BluRay movie on your 16GB stick without transcoding. Good luck with that.

The point with transcoding is to make sure that the video in question fits on the device and that it plays using H/W acceleration so the battery lasts longer, and that's what this thread is about. Not about which video player to use.

maybe you didn't stumble upon a high profile mkv ... yet

anyway, I gave up re-encoding, it takes too long with my resources. its is preferable to re-download from other sources a properly encoded HD material, or switch to Standard Definition video material

when I encoded my personal footage, I already preferred to use default settings in handbrake and now I am happy to run it smoothly on my Iconia

IMO, re-encoding is the solution of last resort.
