No need to flash CF root prior. Download XXLPQ (I think that's the official ICS 4.03 release), flash XXLPQ, then use CFroot to gain root, and then flash the original XXLPQ kernel back to get rid of the yellow exclamation point.
Using CFroot then flashing ICS will wipe out root anyways so you'll have to re-rooter.
Here is a link to a guide... there are tons on here but this is a step by step guide that is easy to follow:
and the root portion:
Keep in mind all this requires caution, as always follow carefully and don't brick! If your not comfortable, don't do it as you are ultimately responsible for the device.
I understand what you did there. Makes perfect sense for those who want to keep TouchWiz right? I flashed CF-Root KG2 first to gain root and CWM, in order to flash a custom ICS rom through CWM recovery.
In my case:
1) Flashed CF-Root with ODIN first because i did not want to flash XXLPQ
2) Did a nandroid backup
3) Wiped data, cache, dalvik, system
4) Flashed Custom ICS (HyDrOG3n ICS) + GAPPS
5) Flashed KH3 modem (Been getting 4 bars instead of 2 in my room and speeds of 9Mbps down and 2 Mbps up)
6) Flashed SiyahKernel v3.0 beta 3
Phone running REALLY smooth, with excellent battery so far, excellent signal and data transfer and no lag or fc.
King of all noobs here so pls bare with me guys...
I have the Virgin SGS2 on the Fido network. A couple of days ago, I flashed it with the new XXLPQ firmware (polish version ICS) and though most things work fine, I constantly get a roaming icon and my wifi hotspot does not work. I use this quite often with my tablet and this is one function I really need to work.
I really don't want to go back to stock Bell UKG rom because of the terrible battery life and gps performace.
Can someone please post a link to a known working package (ROM/model/kernel and root) that has no major issues for our Bell/Virgin phones, used on Fido/Rogers network? I really don't want to go back to GB2.3.3 but if that's what I need to do in order to get my hotspot to work, then I guess I have no choice.
Thanks for all the help. This forum is a life saver.

I used to use LA4 + KI3 modem with Rogers in Vancouver. I didn't have any issues with Roaming icon or hotspot. I'm using LP7+LPQ modem right now and it works just fine. Did you wipe when you upgrade to ICS from GB? You might want to try that before giving up on ICS.
Btw, I used Intertech's LA4 and LP7 ROM packages.
Good luck

Yes I did full wipe, but AFTER I upgraded. So can I keep my current LPQ Modem and just flash the LP7 firmware? Would you be so kind and post a link to all the packages you are using? I'll give this another try. I really like ICS but those 2 issues are a deal breaker for me.
I also have a Virgin SG2, and i rooted and unlocked it to use on FIDO. I tried CheckRom with Siyah Kernal, but for some reason most of my calls kept going straight to voicemail. Tried different Kernals, but same issue. I tried to do a wipe and re-flash but still same issue.
Used CWM to restore to my KG2 backup and phone calls where fine. Anyways going forward.
So last night i upgraded to LP7 using ODIN, and i updgraded without Wiping, and things went well, and it kept all my settings. I had to re-root it as expected. But to my surprise, i didn't have to unlock it again, as it was already unlocked.
So running on LP7, and seeings how the battery holds. Have had no FC on any apps at all.
If i do have battery issues, i am thinking of wiping and re-flashing, but just curious if just doing a factory reset will achieve the same thing, as all the settings will be gone and it should be back to LP7 default image. Can anyone correct me on this? Would it keep the bell bloat ware or loose it? I am using TB to freeze them, and they stayed frozen even after the upgrade.

Factory reset just wipes the /data and the /cache partitions, if you do a full wipe from CWM it also nukes the /system partition, since installing a new ROM also tends to clear the /system anyway the difference is likely minimal, however ROM installation scripts may leave odd tidbits in the /system partition and that stuff is often the stuff that causes problems.

So that package only has the Firmware minus the modem? Because you say you have the LPQ modem, but all references in this package are to LP7. Now that I have LPQ and if I flash with the package you provided, will that give me an LP7 radio or keep the currently installed LPQ?
BTW, thank you for providing the link. I appreciate all your help.

UPDATE: So I flashed with the LP7 package and still getting a roaming icon. Hotspot also doesn't work. This is just getting frustrating now. I think I'll put her back on GB.

Any other suggestions?
Did you do a wipe before you installed the LPQ? Was the icon there before you upgraded to LPQ?
