Yeah I saw other posts saying just the product model and it works, I did that it did work however it was laggy and slow, so just to be sure I changed all 4 sections and once doing that it loading very quickly and was working flawlessly, I dont know if it was really because of that or if I just had a bad connection while I was using it before the changes. but it doesnt hurt it to change all 4 so.
As for a CWM modem, another Bell user made one and had it posted in the official firmware section, I dont remember what page though but I did keep a copy downloaded.
Whats the deal with CWM modems in zip files anyways?, arnt they just the same thing but you boot and flash through CWM rather then odin?, why go through the effort of making CWM modems , is it just to avoid plugging in your USB cable and using Odin? seems kinda lazy to me lol.
I'll be sure to test it and see myself.
As far as I know CWM zip files have a script that make them compatible WITH CWM among some other things. I probably wouldn't suggest you to flash a Odin zip. :P Guilty on the lazy part though.

I'm also curious about that too. Especially people with Bell and subscribed to their mobiletv service. KI4 was great when I had it for GB but now it's kinda shady with ICS. Tried the new XXLPX AND XXLPQ but neither are compatible with the mobile tv service. Data otherwise is fine though....

The mobile TV issue happens when you use anything other than the bell firmware. I live in Van, I'm using revolution remix and using the LPQ modem, everything is working great..
Bell Self serve app works for me,I haven't tried mobile TV again, but before when I was not even rooted, just using non-bell GB firmware (ki3) it would not work
This is very impressive to me, footprint is small, snappy, I can live with the small text, and even setup my go launcher on 6 x 7 as shown in the screenshot...
Comparing usage in the same locations between LD3 AND KI4, LD3 gets slightly better reception but I'm consistently stuck on -89 dbm where my coworkers stock SG2 would reach even -75 at times. The effect of moving to ICS has been apparent as Mobile Tv takes longer to load and connect to the network.
Anybody else notice this?

Samsung RILs are notoriously horrible, there are known issues where the signal they report and the actual signal is nowhere near the same and therefore the information in the phone info and the bars shown on the status bar are completely wrong. The GB RIL has been around longer so it was more mature than the one for ICS, but it was still known for crashing and having other odd bugs. Flashing a good radio helps to some extent, but since the RIL is responsible for taking the data from the radio and setting it up for use with the phone, having a ****ty RIL will destroy most of the benefit of a good radio, there is nothing you can do about this sadly since the RIL is proprietary and closed source, but I wouldn't trust the signal strength that is reported by the phone as being anywhere near correct.

Really informative thanks.

Yeah, it's just another one of those 'Blame Samsung' situations, hopefully it will get better in some of the later ICS releases, but given Samsung's history I wouldn't count on a significant improvement.
I can report self serve works with rooted phones and with untouched non-M'ed build props.
It works with every ics rom and every modem I've used including modified stock roms, miui, and aokp variants. You just can't use it while on wifi, but that was true with gingerbread as well.
It may be because greater vancouver has good coverage, but I'm not sure why everyone always complains and worries about modems. I live in a basement and get consistent and fast connections. I go biking in the mountains, skiing, and still get a connection. Can't remember losing service except inside a terribly old concrete building underground at school.
I'm going to buy a SGSII 4G from Virgin soon. Can anyone give instructions for a noob like me please? Also give details as well please such as downloading correct firmware + kernel please? I really don't wanna screw this up.
