My uncle was trying to update his Galaxy S via Kies in Windows and the update failed while installing and he was left with a brick, could only boot into download mode while holding down vol down and power buttons or yellow sign with exclamation if only pressing power.

So he gave it to me to unbrick and I use a Mac so I downloaded Heimdall and XXJVU (2.3.6), device was detected by Heimdall and so I proceded with loading that package and this is what I got:

Code:
ERROR: Failed to confirm end of PIT file transfer!
PIT upload failed!
Ending session...
Rebooting device...
The screen went black and now the phone is completely dead, I've tried removing the battery, the USB cable, and different combinations of either or plugged in while holding down various combinations of buttons and cannot get the phone to show any signs of life whatsoever.

Uncles phone was a SGS Captivate from Rogers Canada and prior to his failed update it was running 2.2 Froyo

*UPDATE: Pulled battery and removed cable for several minutes, also pressed the power button and held it in for a minute to discharge any remaining power...replaced battery and held vol down + power button and I'm back in download mode
My Android Timeline
HTC Dream>HTC Hero>Samsung Galaxy S>HTC Desire Z>HTC Panache>HTC Sensation>Galaxy Nexus>Nexus 4

Hi, I am facing similar problem with custom flash.

I am trying to repair my galaxy anycall (korea) with stock rom and ODIN doesnt recognize it. so trying Heimdall but there is no stock korean romfor this.

I tried to custom flash but it stuck at modem with an error. Failed to confirm end of pit.

I've replaced the files with kroean versions during the update but failed.

Any help showing step-by-step on creating heimdall package would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. Finally managed to create a Heimdall file for Anycall Galaxy. problem solved. Thanks a ton to Heimdall..Below are the mediafire links if any one interested.

ROM - M110S-Gingerbread-HOME-IMAGE-REV03-WC13-1023-USER. I've to split it in to two files. You can combine with HJSPLIT

I've updated my 'semi-bricked' Anycall Galaxy M110S with this and confirm working fine.

Thanks to xsenman & rest of the team for providing the Stock ROM & tips.

Ah, yes. Heimdall 1.3.2 has a bug with flashing some of the larger files in a ROM. I'd recommend staying with 1.3.1 or 1.3.0.
Devices: Sony Xperia T, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Huawei U8185
Work: Heimdall firmware packages for Samsung stock ROMs (GT-I9000, GT-P6200), noma kernel for stock Huawei U8150 ROMs, CyanogenMod 7.2 for Huawei U8150, CyanogenMod 10 for Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus

Thanks for the work. Made downgrading to stock galaxy and upgrading to CM9 few minutes of work (had some troubles with CM7, checking CM9 now or I'll downgrade again to stock...)

Since I only run Linux, the Heimdall Packages are very appreciated!

DONATE TO ME
Thanks for the packages I thought nobody would ever use the Heimdall package format
Any chance you could host JVU somewhere other than BayFiles? I get this error every time I try it:
"The web page at http://dl/abe2edb8/50362ccf/0/516a9a...eimdall.tar.gz might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."
