This definitely looks easier than the existing ROM-cooking guide for my device. I usually go through the excruciating method of manually replacing and deleting apps after flashing a new ROM, so if I can get this to work it'll be most helpful. Thanks for writing this. Will read up more closely

Hey Freeza, thanks for this excellent tutorial. My quick question is, how do I repackage the end results into a flashable rom (.zip file). I tried something a few days before and it would not flash on my phone. Can you just tell me that part. Otherwise, I don't get to experience my 'new creation' lol. Thanks in advance.

great guide, thanks again. i'm modding away on my favorite ROM, but like others, I'm having trouble zipping them back up to flash. I tried zipping using windows explorer, 7zip and winRAR, but none of the zips I make will flash.

is there a specific format that the zip needs to be in in order to flash through TWRP?

I tried adding about 75 apk's to the /data/app/ folder but only about 1/3 of them actually installed?

It seems kind of random, like some in the A's installed sprinkled all the way down to the Z's. My phone didn't run out of memory cuz it still shows like 300+mb left.

Am I missing something?

Not all apps can run in /system/app. You may run into problems with permissions and signatures with some apps.

I've seen this before. some dev is able to move all the apps in that folder with no issues. How is it done?

+1 but apparently this is way above the average users:

"The truly adventurous can take a stab at modifying the smali dis-assembly prior to building the APK. The syntax is a bit difficult to follow at first, but with proper modifications you can adjust the image dimensions, rendering locations, and much more. I found it useful to pull the classes.dex file from the APK, convert it from .dex to .class format using dex2jar, and then browse the reconstructed source using JD-GUI. It is important to remember that the reconstructed source is not a 100% match to the original source code. However, it is useful for comparing against and understanding the corresponding smali source."

+ 1 . Many questions, no answers ? There is more to learn about managing Custom Roms of course. Or everyone does't by himself? Or the Custom Rom school, perhaps. I mean, I'm greatfull for the opportunity here given but there is more and i don't find the answers.
English isn't my first language.
