there shuld be an odin version of the comunity kenrel, you need to extract the package and in the .tar is inside the zip.
alternatively if you have the cwm kernel already then you can extract the contents, find the zimage file(that's the actual kernel) in either the kenrel folder or updates folder, take that zimage and archive it as a .tar in a program like 7zip the .tar archive should not have compression and should only contain the zimage file.
also depending on what package you used it may be rooted already. try to install superuser from the market before flashing anything. that may be all you need as many of gtg's packages already have su binaries installed. if this is the case then you can flash a custom kernel with sgskernel flasher which will find the zimage inside the .zip and ignore all the other contents, as long as the file extension matches the archive it will figure the rest out.
