By looking at change log, I don't think there are any performance improvements in g3mod 2.5. Major enhancement is GB/ICS support and CWM5 with touch. But i would say switch to latest...

I've switched to latest but not noticed any performance increase.

On what rom are you now? v5.3 is a update.zip to update from v5.0. First you have to install v5.0 by downloading and unzipping, then there is a flashable tar of v5.0. After installing v5.0 succesfully, download v5.3 and update it by putting the zip on your sd card and install it in the recovery
