Question [Q] Dual Boot from SD Card for Nook Simple Touch: Why Not or How?

Hello:

Is it possible to create a Dual Boot from a SD card (with Android) for the Nook Simple Touch?

If yes, how?
I not, why?

Awaiting your kind reply,

Out of curiosity, why would you want to do this? The nook 2nd edition is already running Android 8)
Sprint: Stock Sanyo Phone (RIP) >> Stock LG Phone (RIP) >> Palm Treo 650 (RIP) >> LG Rumor 2 >> HTC Touch Pro (Energy's ROM) (RIP) >> HTC Touch Pro ][ >> HTC Diamond on XDAndroid

Sarmasm,

Coder12 is right. Nook STR already runs android 2.1 (eclair), and you get to see it when you root.
Sometimes people want to do the same way as with Nook Color - have the NC unrooted, but have a OS running from SD - but at least get a better version, Cyanogenmod or higher version of Android (2.2, 2.3, etc). But it also demands some programming, Android OS knowledge, and check if the STR accepts such new demands on the CPU and battery life - which is a strong point on the STR.

Thank you all for your prompt reply!

Ok, so dual booting is not currently an option... so, just to be sure that I'm understanding the limitations here: if I don't root the Nook Simple Touch, I won't be able to install on it any Android software apps, i.e. a different ereader software with more ebooks' format options, right?

Also, if the device is rooted, what are the memory (RAM, since it's running Android 2.1 a.k.a. Eclair) limitations to installing software apps?

Finally, the R on STR, does it means Reader or something else entirely?

Sebastian,

Así como tu, yo soy chileno, pero vivo en Brasil!
No rooting, no installing android apps, unless BN comes with another update, such as the one done on Nook Color.
Regarding installing programs, I haven't got any program that I couldn't install (unless they were made for later android versions), and I have several apps installed (more than 50 so far), all running fine on the nook.
STR stands for Single Touch Reader, even though the official name is Nook Touch.

OK, but on what portion of the RAM are you installing apps? On the whole 1Gbytes for ebooks or just in the 250Mbytes originally reserved for non Barnes&Noble ebooks?

So... what's your ereader software of choice? The preinstalled original from Nook or a different Android app (which)?

The advantage with running off sd is that you can be quicker and more organised on the tweaking, and then once happy with it, then roll it out to main memory

You need to make a custom kernel. But it doesn't have sense at all. We need to: Fix those glitches http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1241933
Fix market and all searching things,
Update to 2.3(.4?), sdk is most important, but from here i think it is better to make a 3.0 kernel, and wait for 4.0 android,
Find bluetooth (but i still think nook doesnt have one, because why?)
IMO it would be good to improve speed of refreshing but it is hell complicated stuff.

If we have one good rom why should we have 2 flimsy ones?
