Question Problem installing GingerDXv008 and other roms

Hi guys!

I have a xperia x8 and tried installing the GingerDX v008 all day long with no luck, I've rooted the phone, I tried using xrecovery, clockwork mod, but it's not installing the zip file ... the only rom which i already have successfully installed on my device was floyo 1.0. I tried extracting the contents in different folders (as for floyo, the only way to install it, was when i put it in /xrecovery/backup) ..and then installing it - it didn't work, I tried installing them from the zips - also didn't work. I tried several roms v007, v001, CM7 ..they all didn't work. I want to know should I have something preinstalled before "updating"

I mean floyo was a few img files and md5 file including them, the update zips had only folders with files, and if I tried restoring the system, it don't find md5 checksum.

...I tried installing it on fully wiped and bricked phone - still nothing .. the error is Status 7 or something like that

What xRecovery version are you using?

You installed busybox, chargemon and xRecovery before trying to install roms?

I took this from this thread.

Download THIS: http://ul.to/l7wf2z6q
That pack has everything you need.

YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO DO THIS

Installing xRecovery is the first step in the world of custom ROMs. Installing xRecovery also means if you are stuck in a bootloop, you can just recover to a working backup.

The first step is to download xRecovery mini-beta 0.1 (any other version WILL NOT work on your X8) (download available at the top of the thread).

Next, download Root Explorer (download available at the top of the thread).

Copy both the xRecovery folder and the Root Explorer .apk to your SD card.

Install any file manager from the Android Market (I recommend OI File Manager or Astro) and use it to browse to the Root Explorer .apk file and install it.

Run Root Explorer, browse to the xRecovery folder and copy the 3 files inside onto the /system/bin folder.

xRecovery is installed. To start xRecovery you press the Back button while the Sony Ericsson logo is showing during boot. Restart your phone and just keep tapping the back button repeatedly.

To move around in xRecovery you use the volume buttons, to select an item you press the Home button (the middle one), and to go back you press the Back button. Go ahead and make a backup of your current system (make sure you have at least 300MB of free space on your SD card.

You'll find the backup you just made in the xRecovery/backup folder. Name it something you can identify (don't use spaces). Copy that backup onto somewhere safe on your PC.
I guess that the 3 files that he talks about that you need to copy to /system/bin should be: busybox, chargemon, xRecover.tar.

(at least I did that and no problems occured).

Thanks ..I did - I had to wipe everything and then I could install it, but one thing was needed - Factory Reset (I installed it once, but I forgot about this step and the phone was not booting properly.

But now I have working Gingerbread v008
