Is there a way to hide the button bars in email and contacts

IMHO these buttons take too much space in landscape mode (see screenshot). I've looked in the email settings but i can't find an option for it. Is there a way? Or do i need to install an alternative app for mail and contacts? Regards, Rob Attached Thumbnails
