Read the "all things root" sticky. You will see how to install xRecovery there. The next part is easy. Every Rom thread has instructions on how to install the specific Rom.

Sent from my X8 using XDA App

Yeah get XRecover installed, that is the hard part but loads of tutorials on it even on Youtube.

Then you just need to download rom and copy it to SD card and install it from there. you can backup your existing rom first to ensure you something to go back to if something goes wrong but it hasn't for me yet.

It is very hard to go wrong as long as you ensure you have a valid rom file before going to Xrecovery.

########################

Befor i start the bla, bla, bla i want to let you know that i am just a javascript programmer and not c/c++ in which our phones are written, and
to let you know that every action that this guide descripe can't damage permanent your phone. Folowing the guide without rooting cant harm your phone at all.

OFFCURSE YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE

Starter tutorial - Just bought an experia x8 ... what next?
First read the "Dictionary" on the end of the post.
Small advice: spenting some time reading everythink on a guide can prevent you from losing time in fixing your phone.

Some informations:
Phone name: Xperia x8
Phone code-name: E15i , E15a
Last official rom: android 2.1 (version 2.1.1.A.0.6)
MultiTouch status: not for all

General rumors about se support: se stoped developing x8

---=START=---

1.Root - Get admin access
Your x8 runs android, a linux based os.
On many computer operating systems, the superuser, or root, is a special user account used for system administration. When you buy your phone you dont have admin access, so you have to get.
Why?
Many cool apps require user access and also you will be able to have access to the your phone files.(not only sd card's)
Is it safe for my phone?(virus and other)
After rooting, an app with the name superuser is installed on your phone which controls the admin access and ask you to give your permition every time an app want admin access.

How to root your phone:
Personaly i use CLShortFuse's programme and way to root my phone.
His threat is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
(Please click his thank button if you are register to xda, as he is worth it)

2.File Manager - where are my files?
On android you dont have stock app for browsing your files. Download a file manager of your choise from the market
in order to be able to browse your sd card and if you have root your phone download a root file manager for phone files to.
popular file manager: astro file manager , adao file manager
popular root file manager: root explorer

3.Launcher - How can I manage my apps and icons?
Android is developed by google then phone companies take it and adjust it to their needs... Se's stock launcher is not giving you many options to custumise it. Is hard to use and it is losing you time.
Download a new laucher from market and edit your desktop environment as you like.
popular launchers: ADW launcher , Lancher Pro
After download and installation click home button (middle one) and check your laucher as default, this can be changed from options > applications > manage applications > [your launcher] > clear defaults.

4.Task Killer - How can I shut down an app?
Many apps just run without to start them , its not something bad, or they still runing on background after closing them. All this makes your phone slower, laggy and make your battery last shorter. So you need a task killer, a programme that kill apps and can keep an eye open for not using runing apps , once on a while, and kill them.
polular task killer: advance task killer

5.Moving apps an sd (Need Root Access)- I need more space for apps.
x8 with android 2.1 dont provide you enought space for your apps. So you need an apps that moves apps on sd. This sounds easy but its not. I recomend you to download Link2SD from market. Then you will have to make some changes on your sd card.

6.xRecovery (Need Root Access)- this is the door for customing your phone's firmware. Developed by zdzihu (please click his thank button),
xRecovery is a custom recovery (can be run after boot). With it you can buck up everythink from your phone to your Sd card, mount sd card for pc connection without having to boot android, install-replace phone's files, install custom roms, make a factory reset and many others.
Link of a working xrecovery version for x8 (tutorial by zdzihu himshelf) :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878426
And there is no way your phone go faster from root...
After instaling xrecorery , everytime you charge your phone while you have it turned off, it will open to android... (no ofline charge)

-=Dictionary=-
