Default wifi tethering

I'm rooted and have installed both wireless tether for root users and barnacle, but when I turn them on I get a notification that my vzw mobile hot spot is active. Should I ignore this since I didn't sign up for it? Also the wireless hot spot box wasn't checked off. Am I getting charged for hot spot now?

Is "Wireless Tether" app actually working for you? Have you tested using a wireless device to use the phone's 4G? Which version are you using? 2.0.7 or older, or the new 3.x beta?

Ill tell you from my own eyes...if you use a rooted tethering app...VZW does recogize the IP addy being broadcasted and will promt you to purchase the tethering function from them. If not you will be charged 1.99 per MB. Ive seen a bill reach over 700$

I never actually got one working, when I turned on the tethering and saw the Verizon Mobile Hot Spot notification come on I stopped and uninstalled them, I didnt want to risk getting charged.

Yeah I will stick with pda net for now, from what I can tell from checking my usage that data is going into my unlimited data plan, I dont think I'm being charged 1.88 mb for it.

I downloaded the latest version from google code (3.1 beta 6) and I also get the Verizon tethering app to pop up. I also tried connecting my Eee pad Tablet, no go.

No dude that's legit. Verizon knows your IP and they will charge you!! Maybe more than $700 or cancel service for not abiding by data terms and conditions. Do some research on it before you call him out dude.

Aye Bernardo... What luke says is true. When you purchase a data pkg from any upstanding mobile service company they attach a public ip addy to your account. That is how they know your ip address... You can't change your phone's public ip without more money than it's worth. If you decide to and can get it to work for less than $30/mo, or whatever Verizon charges, lemme know, because I'll have a hefty business proposition for you.
