Galaxy S such device have less customization so it's similar to the vanilla Gingerbread and they are port from older Samsung devices which is quiet easy for a developer becuase most of the drivers and other frameworks are the same. But Xperia Arc we have lot of new customization like EXMOR sensor, etc. which we need drivers for, and lot of those drivers are not public so developers are working hard to get that working. And porting other ROM are very difficult and time consuming process.

Also if they are successful in getting drivers in CM 7. Then could these drivers be used in making other ROMS ?

Yes. CM7 is the best custom ROM. Other ROM there won't be much difference same CM7 based few apps add or removed, zip align, custom theme etc.

Yeah..
Xperia has a few new things.. Exmor R sensor.. The thing behind the great camera we have
Even the Radio had changes for which the CM drivers not compatible.. which I think they recently fixed in FreeXperia and CM..
CM gets fixed cos it is one of the most used custom ROMs and supports a lot of devices.. A lot of the other ROMs are just small changes over stock and a few others build over CM ..
There is a Thanks button for a purpose Click it if someone helps you..
