Default Droid Bionic Dial Pad not showing up when the call button is pressed

So i just bought the droid bionic, loving it so far.

But i came across this one annoying thing: When i dial a number and hit call, my dial pad disappears. Any body know what i should do to keep the dial pad active?

Edit: Pressed the power button and that brought up the dial pad visibility back, but shouldn't that be visible anyways ?

Thank you.

Is the whole screen turning black? Do you use a cover of any kind? Are you using phone in a very dark environment? There are sensors that detect light in the top right corner of your phone. You may be covering these sensors, and the phone is shutting screen off, like it should when you put phone up to your ear.
