WiFi connection issues
I have numerous devices that I connect to my work WiFi, but for some reason my new Sprint Epic 4G Touch will not hold a connection to the WiFi. Sometimes it connects fine, other times it says "obtaining IP address".
Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
JOHN

Current Phone: Galaxy Nexus
Current Tab: Nexus 7 & iPad 3
Previous Phones: (Galaxy S3, HTC One X, Galaxy Note, iPhone 4s, RAZR, Rezound, Nexus S, Epic 4G Touch, iPhone 4, Blackberry Torch, Infuse, Atrix, Nexus One, iPhone 3GS, Blackberry Storm 2, iPhone 3, EVO, Blackberry Storm, Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Curve, iPhone, Treo, Original RAZR)
Thanks!

I'm also from Ohio and some areas are bad, but you can call Sprint and complain about your service and they'll give you a Rave that well help out a lot.

WiFi
I believe he commented having problems with WIFI, which Sprint has no control over.
I have observed similar issues. It was exciting getting the phone to pop up on Spotify on my computer without doing anything, but shortly thereafter it seemed like the WIFI was not really working.
In my house, my Evo 3Ds have full bars when connecting to WIFI, and always works. Last night, on the E4gT, I had barely one bar (on the WIFI symbol) and I kept not being able to get emails. Then, I tried playing HBO Go and MAX Go, and I could only hear but not see anything. I got no error messages, except once got the "this is an audio only stream. For video, please get a better signal or connect to WIFI". I rechecked and I was connected to WIFI. I did a speedTest with Ookla, 22MBPS...Then I changed servers (in the Ookla program) and tried again. It went down to 400kbps.
The night before, both the WIFI and the 3G symbols were on at the same time. The 3G symbol didn't seem to be colored, so I figured it was on sleep mode, but then again, the speeds were slow so it could be WIFI was being screwy.
Can't guarantee there's something wrong with the WIFI, but it definitely felt like it had issues on my part. Whether that was connecting and looking for IP or something else, I'm not sure.
I'll keep an eye on the lookout for any answers to your issue.

Thanks for the response. Between the WiFi issue and a separate issue I am having with dropped signals, this phone may be heading back to Sprint.

I'm having lots of wifi issues as well. I had to lay my e4gt down right next to my dual-band e4200 to get a good signal, but even with a good signal, the phone sometimes pauses for minutes when trying to download or browse the web. And if the wifi signal is weak, I get no data transfer at all.

WoW, so far I have had no issues with wifi. Hell even Kies in wifi mode works good.
Normal wifi linked to my router works great.
Wifi direct works great
Kies in wifi mode works great.
I have never missed a email or txt msg. Streaming audio and video from the web is great, no stutter or issues to report. Grabing apps from the market is super fast.
I am with Time Warner and my internet speed is set to 15 meg down with burst to 30 meg down - I get a solid 15 meg down, 1 meg upload solid.
I am using both wired and wireless with my Linksys router.

It might help (statistically) if folks with/without wifi problems noted which signal was connecting (g/b/n/2.4ghz/5ghz/...)

3G instead of WIFI
I'm guessing you're into something there.
WIFI on, 3G icon shows => using 3G instead of WIFI.
I've also noticed those "minute" delays on using 4G. 4G gets up to 5 MBPS at my office. Evo 3D was getting up to 6.5MBPS. However, the wind could be blowing north instead of south, or a bird could have passed by the 4G signal path or...<insert silly remarks here>
Nonetheless, I get 4G. But even then, I'll open my mail to check a message and I'll have to wait for a minute and nothing will happen. Go back to inbox, then back to the message, nothing. Signal shows 4G on Zzz status as indicating that I'm not trying to use it (but is available). When it works, it's fast, but then it does not always work, which shows concern. So if we have problems with WiFi, and 4G, and 3G connection sucks, for a phone specially designed to be a multimedia monster...it's hard to stream without issues...
I'll be doing some more tests. 14 day return policy sucks, but have silly Best Buy protection plan, and I'm guessing they might still abide to their own 30 day return policy for Rewards members...
Now, I've heard of people complaining about complete crash of their radio, where there will be no signal whatsoever to make/receive calls, sms, data, etc. I haven't experienced these, and I'm still on stock, and I probably just jinxed myself too...sigh... But I wonder if the two issues are somehow related.
It could be software related, maybe need an update, or a better-than-original kernel, or who knows.
I did do the following changes:
RTSP Proxy Address changed to 0.0.0.0
RTSP Proxy Port to 0
HTTPPD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
HTTPPD Proxy Port to 0
But I still have same issues.
In the other hand, I can go to the HBOGo website and somewhat see videos (it's very cumbersome).

My Linksys router model = WRT54GL
Channel = channel 6 - 2.437 GHZ
Now how do you find out what signal I am connected with since I am using "mixed" wireless network mode.
Note in my wireless network mode I only have 4 settings -
a. disabled
b. mixed
c. B-only
d. G-only
So by the looks of it I can only do B and G modes on my Linksys router.
