Default [Q] Need some opinions on the Evo Shift

My fiancee is about to get her upgrade and because she wants a physical keyboard, my first thought was an Evo Shift. I wanted to get the input of the community here and see what you guys like/dislike about the phone. I'm looking for opinions about it stock and rooted. And if you guys would rather have had the Epic instead of the Evo. I really appreciate any info you guys give me.

Definately go with the Shift. Good support Stock or Rooted. Althought I would suggest rooting it, way more options. I 'm not saying the Epic is a bad device. It's just IMO you can do a lot more with the Shift. Also, if you do decide to root. It's a fairly simple process. You have a bunch of different roms to choose from. When the Source Code Kernel Gets released it can be overclocked. Althought honestly a lot of the Shifts appeal is that even stock it's an incrediable device. Quick, stable, and great for everday use whether business or personal. I've had both the Shift and the Epic. Hands down I would choose the Shift everytime.

The wife has an epic & I sport the shift, we hate each others phones. For me the epic is sluggish & not as responsive as my shift so I end up double tapping a lot, kinda like driving a sports car then hopping into a minivan. I have rooted both & must admit the one click root for the epic is much less involved than the shifts root method (2.2 anyway). Having said that, the roms available for the shift are much better than the epics. However, the quantity on the epic side are far greater than the shift side. Quality over quantity? Cpu on stock gives the shift an advantage, even though it is clocked lower, it kicks the epics a$$. Overclocked the shift screams by the epic, topping out at 2 ghz, whereas the epic struggles at 1.4 ghz. Graphix on the epic definitely put the shift to shame, maybe shame is a bit strong...

Point is, for me, the epic feels cheap in the hand compared to my shift. I like to push a button and go, not wait for the system to process. Either way you go, get a custom rom installed asap, and never look back.

You're going to be stuck without another upgrade for two years. You should buy an Evo Shift outright or off cl/ebay, then sell it and upgrade to a shiny new faster phone when one with a keyboard comes out. The Shift is going to be sorely outdated long before another upgrade comes around.

Wow! Ummm ok . Funny. I heard the same statement from someone when I bought my EVO4G a few years ago. It seems to me that statement turned out to slightly incorrect . Considering the Shift outperforms the OG EVO in just about every category. I'm going to have to disagree with your statement.

Thanks so much for all your input guys! I was already pretty sold toward the Shift. As you can see in my sig I have a MT4G and I love HTC! They make the best phones. She has the Moment right now and hates the hell out of the thing. Even rooted the thing just sucks ass. It runs slower than my MT3G did. So I was worried about getting her another Samsung. You guys have definitely helped a lot! Thanks again!

Uh, the original evo is only barely over a year old and had brand new hardware when it came out, so not sure why someone would have been telling you that back then. The shift is nearly a year old at this point and will be nearly three years old by the end of a new contract. Not quite the same kind of situation.

If you root it there are plenty of ROM's and many more coming for the Shift so it will not be out dated anytime soon. As of now you can overclock the Shift to 1.9 ghz and there is no phone capable of doing this and wont be so it doesn't matter what the upcoming phones have on them because there will be a ROM that gives him/her all of that.

So to the poster I would go with the shift it is a great phone i have had it now for a few months and used my upgrade on it. So far no problems and personally i would recommend if you root it to run Synergy Rom.
