Default Restore to Stock "FAIL"

Hey Guys...

I Have a Concern that I would Like Help with... I am Trying to Install / Restore My Friends Galaxy S 4G to Stock but Once I get Past the FactoryFS and Etc I Get a Fail When it's Time to Write (which is what it states)

Now, I'm a Dev Assistant and a Tester So I Know How to Get Around but Samsung is a bit Harder as it Needs to Be Done via Odin

Any Info on to What Might be Causing this or as to What I Can do to help him resolve this... Every time I Try to Turn on the Phone Now I get the Recovery Menu... I Guess Since Odin was Unsuccessful @ the Writing Point?

I'm Sorry but I'm Lost Here... Thanks In Advance for the Help!

There is a thread up top labelled noobs guide to flashing. It has the stock rom link available.

You will need to run Odin before next step.

You will put the phone into download mode.

Do this by holding down the power up and power down button as you plug in the usb cable.

Your phone should recognize ODIN.

Follow the steps in the Noobs guide to flashing on how to load the files into ODIN.

It is very simple because you dont change any settings in ODIN. You leave it how it is and it really makes flashing back to stock pretty easy

Let me know if you have any questions.

So I actually have a similar problem but I get a FAIL every time I go through the process. Here is what I have tried:

1) Tried to root with ODIN and sent my phone into an endless boot with funky colored dots after boot screen. Apparently i failed.
2) Tried flashing with ODIN KD1 deodexed rom referenced in another xda thread about how to unbrick a galaxy s 4g. This quickly sent up the FAIL box in red in ODIN and then my phone was solidy bricked -> black screen with an arrow from a cell phone to a computer.
3) Used the One-click unbrick tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2#post15330252
4) This one-click too solved my black screen problem but now i'm back to the endless boot. I can still enter into download mode but not recovery.

I have been working on this all day without any luck, so I hope someone is willing to help. Thanks

You will not need to enter recovery only download so that is ok.

Make sure you have the correct drivers for your phone installed on your computer. Also make sure you have ODIN running before you enter download mode.

I have had instances in the past where I had to reinstall ODIN and restart my computer before it would flash as well.

Let me know if you have any questions or need to know what files I use.

So I think I have the correct drivers installed on my computer but I could be wrong I suppose. The computer seems to recognize my phone fine so I think it's OK. Is there anyway to double check this?

I'm also not sure if I'm using the proper rom for flashing in ODIN. Thanks for offering to help.

If it is recognizing the phone it should be alright.
I would personally use [ROM-ODIN]T959VUVKB5 Stock + Root which can be found in ALL ROMS thread in dev section.

Once you have it downloaded take all the previously mentioned steps.

Run Odin... download mode.... etc.

Dont change any of ODINS settings.

Go down Odins list and upload the files to the correlating places. If it does not work PM me and we will figure out whats happening.

KB5 is good, but i would recommend raver's KC1. it will clean up all problems that have accumulated from the bad flashes.
If I helped you, the thanks button is very much appreciated.

So I already flashed KB5. I would like to upgrade the phone to 2.3.5 if possible now, or is this a bad idea with all the bad flashes?

---------- Post added at 10:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:55 AM ----------

So I did a little more homework and it appears that I need to flash something like KG4 through ODIN? Once I have done this I can flash Valhalla, which appears to be the most popular/stable release.
