It's all the same, so, it work
That's what I was hoping you'd say!

you can flash uImage_cwm directly into recovery partition. then, you can boot recovery with VOL+ + POWER.
ClockworkMod Recovery 5 can't install official update.zip. if you want to reinstall official ROM, use uImage_recovery in official ROM.

i think I may be missing something as when I try this I do not see CWM. Could you tell me which files should be (and also those that should NOT be) on the root of my SDCard and what I am meant to be doing when the files are there?

I very much appreciate your help! Cheers!

if you are on ics, this method doesn't work. You must before downgrade to ginger and then, retry this method.

It's because aml_autoscript boot method is not implemented on ics and memory mapping is not compatible with cm9. cm9 is based on the same kernel as ginger.

Thanks, I've just downgraded to GB and now I have CWM working!

I do have one more issue though (sorry). Having done this:

I can get into CWM. I also have the update.zip on the SDCard and then I did this:

3. install update.zip
4. wipe data/factory reset *1
5. reboot

*1 only if you are upgrading from non-CM9 ROM (CM9 1st install)
How do I then boot into CM9? Rebooting with either or neither of the volume buttons pressed just brings it back to CWM.

Thanks again for your assistance and patience!

delete aml_autoscript from SD card, or remove SD card.

I tried removing it and all I had when I booted was a black screen with one white pixel in the corner. Wiped, flashed and tried again with the sdcard inserted but the aml file deleted and it boots fine. I'm assuming that to use CWM we have to put the file back, reboot, make changes, remove the file and reboot?

Thanks!

really the biggest problem I'm having is how to repack the images correctly after I unpack and edit them. It seems it packs it wrong as the tablet won't boot. can you tell me how you are repacking the files?
