Default Battery draining if using lte version in countries that don't support it? unlocking?

Im planning on buying the at&t version since im sure it will be cheaper than the international version (which is supossedly going to cost 780 $ -the 16 gb version- ) but i'm worried about the battery life, word on the street is that at&t is getting a lte version and im gonna use the device here in latinamerica , and we dont have lte, will the battery drain faster trying to look for a nonexistent lte network?

Also , i know is tought to tell since the device isnt out yet but do you think it'd be easy to unlock since its a samsung device, they're famous for being quite easy to unlock, or do tou think since ice cream it's a quite different version of android it'll be harder? what happened to nexus s? was it easy to unlock?

I think, there may actually be LESS battery drain on a non-LTE network.

That's based on pure logic, however - Gingerbread offers to run on a "2G only" as a battery-saver option, so i assume that running on 3G or less is going to be less battery consuming than 4G LTE. I may be wrong though.

As LTE seems to be working currently, causes far more drain than 3g. May get better one day...anyway you can just turn it off if desired to avoid drain so don't worry about it

You're worried about something that you heard on the street?
There will be two versions of the gn, gsm and lte... pick one.

HP Touchpad + cm9
SGS2 + cm9

DONATE TO ME
There will be a CDMA/LTE version and a GSM/HSPA+ version. As of right now, there will be no GSM/LTE version, so your worries about battery life are unfounded.

Also... if history repeats, there will be an on/off switch for LTE on the CDMA version.

That's great news, i use gsm so no worries now, it's just i thought they were coming out with a gsm/lte version for at&t since they've been advertising their lte network
