Good news! I got new parts from China today in the mail and I think the build process will be faster, easier and will have a nicier finished product.

I will post photos and videos this week on building the new cable

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium

Make your own USB "car dock" cable with audio out + charging.
Tested on the Samsung Galaxy S2 (AT&T i777)

I may have to make one of these. I'm not big into hardware mods, but the BT audio has been slightly disappointing and i'd like to up the quality in my car without having to plug two cables in each time I get in.

What about alternator hum/engine noise from the dock audio out? I can hear it really bad when I have a car charger and use 3.5mm to stereo RCA out to my Alpine Headunit. I think I want to combine this hack with this. If I can hack up some way to hold that tilt swivel just above my head unit (on top of the dash) I think I'll have a superior mount, perfect for GPS. Let me know about alternator noise. Thanks!

You need a ground loop isolator. And I still need to use one even though I am now using the homebrew car dock connection. I use this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Red...0844295&sr=8-1

Cheap and works pretty well.

As far as noise on the dock audio out.. I do hear a bit more than when I used the headphone jack to my aux input in the car. I can hear noise generated (very low static/scratchy noises) with screen updates and when the phone is doing cell data. Not much mind you.. but I can hear it. I liked the captivate better in the way it never shut off audio and never floated the outputs when no audio output is happening like the GS2 does. It's the floating that produces the noise. Wish we could keep it from doing that and would keep from hearing some thumps when the phone fires up audio.

Hope that helps.

Default Could we add a wired headset plug to this?

Would it be possible to wire in a connection to a wired headset, like Samsung has done with this USB connector?

Not sure about the headset part, probably not possible but don't quote me on that

Default So, are you going to make a few of these and sell them?

Many of us would be interested in buying one!
