Make 3D button not interrupt apps?

I was just trying to figure out if there's a way to make it so the 3D button won't interrupt the app you currently have open when you push it. My main reason is I just want an extra free button available when assigning controls on emulators. 3D button would = Z button on N64oid.

I have seen that thread, which I just now posted in. However I'm trying to find a way to make the button into a "soft key" rather than a "hard key", meaning it won't interupt or exit out of applications when pressed. I'd also like the ability to use it as an extra button such as when playing emulators for example.
