Just bought a Nook Touch

I just bought a refurbished Nook Touch on overstock for $75 (with coupon). I've already got a Nook Color, which I love, but I don't like the harsh light from the LCD at night. I also live near the beach and having the option of taking my reading material there would be awesome.

Anyway I'll be rooting it right away, as the Economist and the WSJ are two of my major reads and I need to get to the android market for those.

1) With the scrolling/rendering limitations of E-ink, is there any page up/down option available?
2) Are there any other customizations that you guys like, and feel like it makes the downside of an eink a little more palatable?
3) Is there any effort in creating a (GB+) custom ROM or (and I'm dreaming) CM with a custom launcher? Just something I can track, and support once they have a working alpha/beta. I'm a little worried for the future of my little e-ink tablet if it never gets a software update.
