Tethering on the Nokia Lumia 800

Tethering is not available on the Lumia 800. Should this not be possible to enable?

Surely the device must have chipset support for this (Broadcom 4329)!?

There have been rumors floating around that Nokia will provide a firmware update that would enable this sometime 2012 (believe it if you want).

My tought with this thread is to capture tethering related information for the Lumia 800 (and perhaps the 710). Since this is an issue that is bond to be discussed in the near future.

I too would like to know exactly what's going on. I love this design so much that I've resigned myself to putting up with the other glaring omissions, but this is just... disgusting...

I rely on WiFi tethering on a daily basis for my tablet and I simply will not go near any phone that leaves out this feature.

Seriously, do they want to succeed or not?

Carriers can block Tethering (in most cases) in the network. Therefore this is a pretty stupid decision by Nokia.

I've heard that Nokia has teamed with over 30 operators for the initial launch of these devices (making it the largest Nokia launch ever!?). This has probably influenced the decision some how...they don't wanna anger/endanger some of them...

It would be very nice to here som official comment from Nokia on this.

has anyone official acctually said its not available or have they just not listed it in the specs? TBH this would be a kick in the teeth but not a deal breaker for me.

How sad. I really liked this phone and planned to buy this as my next device (if priced around 400€). I really don't need a FFC because I don't really see the use of video-chatting on the go. I want a quiet environment and that is at home where my laptop is. But not having tethering ( http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/...g/td-p/1191871 ) is a deal breaker here. I frequently use tethering multiple times a month but I guess I have to wait for the samsung lineup. I really loved the nokia drive feature but it cannot makeup for the lack of tethering.

Many thanks for the link, disappointing as it was to read. I was so so keen on owning this beautiful phone, but it seems like one glaring omission after another is rearing its ugly head and the compromise is just getting too hard to justify.

I wouldn't trust that link tbh and even so it should be able to be enabled by a reg edit.

I can confirm that Tehtering will indeed be coming to the Lumia 800 in a later date.. Was at the Nokia House event last night, and the Nokia guy there confirmed that it won't be available at release, but will be at a later date via an update..
