[How to] Root the Galaxy Note - step by step guide NOW WITH VIDEO!
UPDATE:
As many will be aware there are now Root methods that do not increase the flash counter, therefore meaning they do not irreparably void your warranty like the initial ODIN method. I have made a video for the new method to supplement Chainfire's excellent written guide here.
DEPRECATED GUIDE - NO NOT USE THIS GUIDE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO WARRANTY AND WOULD PREFER TO USE ODIN BECAUSE YOU ARE ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH IT (ALSO SUBSTITUTE NETCHIPS KERNEL WITH A CFROOT ONE AS NETCHIPS KERNEL BREAKS WIFI TETHER):
I've Rooted my Note using Odin, very simple like most Samsung devices. I've got a full guide here.
Basically flash netchips kernel for CWM in PDA in Odin and then flash a SU zip from recovery and you're done (if that isn't enough info for you then check the blog). Current drawback of this approach Vs the zergrush exploit is that you cannot return the Note to a factory state for warranty purposes (the flash counter remains elevated). This means your warranty is really, truly, borked. I'm sure someone will crack it soon, but for now this is the state of play.
Video also has bonus demo of the Note running the 'tegra-only' Shadowgun and outputting it via MHL to an external monitor and playing it with a PS3 controller!
I know this is off topic but I got a few questions
1) If I want to flash stock ROM (KJ4), will I need to specify PIT file? If so, which one?
2) How did you get Shadowgun on market? Mine says that it's not available for this device.

I used Chainfire 3D in order to download Shadowgun from the Market - my blog has guides on how to use Chainfire and PS3 controllers (info also available here at XDA0.
I got another question, if I set Chainfire to use NVIDIA plugin, then will other apps that worked previously have any impact or will they stop working?
It will use the Nvidia plugin for them too, which may or may not break them. If you get the Pro version of Chainfire then you can use 'per-app' settings.

Unless told explicitly by somebody who knows what he's talking about, you don't need to use a PIT file at all.
In all my days using and flashing the SGS1, SGS2, and SGT7, I have used a PIT file maybe 5 times out of near 10000 flashes.
Hey CF, any idea why some of us are having issues with CF3D and the newest SU? I had to flash about three different versions in recovery last night to get Root to work for anything but Titanium Backup?
Not too long ago, we talked about how Sony was continuing its AOSP efforts on … more
