Default Atrix 2 Data Rates Compared to Other devices

Well I figured I'd post a finding that seems to hold true all over my area..

The Atrix 2 is the fastest phone in terms of data rates i've used with 1 exception.

Here are my test results and signal levels.

Atrix 2, Site ID 3a7d (1900Mhz), -87dBm
Speed Test.net Site: Auburn CA
Max Transfer speed download: 8.07
Max Transfer speed upload: 1.31
Avg Download (10 tests): Down: 6.27Mbit, Upload 1.29Mbit
Atrix 2, Site ID 3a7e (850Mhz), -69dBm
Max Transfer speed download: 7.2Mbit
Max Transfer speed upload: 1.37Mbit
Avg Download (10 Tests): Down: 6.18Mbit, Upload 1.31Mbit

Atrix 4G, Site 3a7d 1900mhz -89dBm
Same server as above
Download max: 4.61 Mbit
Upload Max: 1.27 Mbit
Avg down: 3.88 Mbit, Up: 1.10Mbit
Atrix 4G Site 3a7e 850mhz, -67dBm
Download max: 3.87Mbit
Upload Max: 1.29Mbit

Nexus S (ATT 9020A)
3a7d 1900mhz - 88dBm, same server as above:
Max Down: 4.2Mbit
Max Up: 1.19 Mbit
Avg down: 4.1, avg up: 1.18
3a7e 850mhz, -68dBm:
Max Down: 2.87
Max Up: 1.30
Avg Down: 2.3Mbit, Avg Up: 1.26Mbit

iPhone 4 (iOS 5)
3a7d 1900mhz -84dBm
Max Download: 2.97Mbit
Max Upload: 1.14Mbit
avg Down: 2.8Mbit, Up: 1.14Mbit
3a7e 850Mhz -62dBm:
Max Down: 3.35 Mbit
Max Up: 1.02Mbit
Avg Down 2.9Mbit
Avg Up: 1.04Mbit

Heres an interesting score:
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.5)
3a7d 1900mhz -85dBm
Max Download: 8.76Mbit
Max Upload: 1.39Mbit
avg Download: 7.91Mbit, avg Upload: 1.22Mbit
3a7e 850Mhz -63dBm
Max Down: 6.9Mbit
Max Up: 1.08
Avg Down: 6.3Mbit
Avg Up: 1.01Mbit

I find it interesting the iPhone 4 PRIOR to the IOS 5 upgrade was actually faster than the Atrix 2.
The tests where done with all devices sitting on the same spot on the table, in doors with the latest version of speediest.net app.
Also of an interesting note, the iPhone 4 was the *same* iPhone 4 for both iPhone tests, only difference being the iOS versions.
Not that any one cares about the apple crap, but I figured since it was surprising to me that a *non 4G device* (at least as far as marketing jargon goes) was faster until seemingly crippled.
The Same SIM was used in all of the testing. (iPhone 4 sim is a pain in the ass)

At any rate, it would seem the Atrix 2 is one of ATT's faster devices.. Any one else notice a severe increase VS other devices you've used? Any one found it to be slower?

When I was at my fathers house i compared my phone to his with a Speedtest. He has an iphone 4. I live in the city, i got an 8.63 mb download speed and he got a 4. 4 mb download. He was running iOS 4.2.

I have had an iphone ever since the 3G. Boy am i happy to have switched to android. The new iphone 4s still cant even connect to 4g, has only 512 mb of ram, no widgets etc. Technically all of the specs of the newer android phones (Atrix 2, GSII, many more) blow the new iphone out of the water. At this point, they just seem to be running on hype now, eh?

I am also getting fastest downloads ever - though not as fast as you. Here in Denver, 5.8 MBs download, 1.45 MBs upload. Faster than iPhone 4 or 4S.

However, I don't think the iPhones are just hype. Much as I like the Atrix 2, there are times when it freezes or stutters or just doesn't respond well to touch, even to unlock the screen. I don't know if it is because it is receiving system data from Android servers or what, but it is quite frustrating at times. With iPhone 4 or 4S, everything it does, it does well and smoothly and consistently. I still may end up going back. I like the big screen of the Atrix, and the fun of rooting and customizing, but it is certainly easy to understand the popularity of iOS, because "it just works" can be said more emphatically than you can say about any Android phone I have experienced.

Almost made the switch over to SGS II today. Went trolling through their forums and that phone is still riddled with battery drains like the OG SGS. no otterbox for AT&T version either. Rock solid device the ATRIX 2 so far. I am having issues with the SD card not saving the first camera pic. Need to return my card for a class 4 or 6. Oh well I'm sticking.g with this since Sammy pocket rocket and HTC vivid is too expensive.

I'll have to agree with cushcalc. Until you use an iPhone for a while you won't be able to understand why it has such an appeal, especially if all you see in a device is its paper specs and not how it actually functions. Its naive to think that the iPhone is running on hype alone. I've had every iteration of the iPhone up to now and have only just converted to Android because I want more control over my device and want to tinker (and I have philosophical qualms about apple and their walled garden), but after using both ecosystems extensively, I still say that the user experience on iPhone easily beats Android. It works better, its faster, smoother, more intuitive, etc. It has a lot of issues (hence my defection to Android), but it is definitely still a better user experience. The only thing that has come close is the MIUI Rom.

I just took my atrix2 back and got the htc vivid and will admit that the atrix2 while my speed test scores are about even the atrix just felt faster and much less laggy.
Not that I'll be taking the vivid back but the atrix2 is a great device that I can see myself getting again if the bootloader gets unlocked.
I think Motorola had built a great device with the atrix2, I feel its definitely the fastest phone out on att right now and my battery life was awesome with the a2.
It's too bad I'm the type that always thinks the grass is greener on the other side.
For those that say it doesn't deserve the atrix name or that It's a minor upgrade, go out and try one. It's one of my favorites but I'm an htc fan and even though sense bogs phones down I still love it.
Hope it gets root soon and unlocked. To those that might be thinking of switching, think hard about it. The a2 is a great, fast phone.

Untill i use an iPhone for a while? Did you not read where i said i have always had an iphone since the 3g?(over 3 years with them) Did you also fail to notice how i stated my father had 4.2 iOS? Maybe because i did the jailbreaking for him and only an untethered jailbreak is currently available for iOS 5. I am very experienced with iphones.

Anyways. Not saying i'm becoming an Android fanboy or whatever, but like i stated before i'm much more intrigued with the Android OS. iPhone is just very...SIMPLE. Sure you can have a VIDEO play as a wallpaper, if you want your battery gone in 3 hours. Sure you can advertise iOS 5.0 having a "revolutionary notification bar" which android has had since the start. Sure you can open alot of your apps to look at updates instead of having a widget display info without even going into an app. Sure you can use a laggy 3g connection that is bery outdated and wait for the slow recalculating with a gps.

Truth is, the iphone is for the simple sheep who simply need prodding along.

Well anyways that is really off topic. Sorry. But yeah this phone has great speed capabilities (along with all other devices with HSDA+)

Also the ONLY thing the iphone has going for it is that there are slightly more apps available. Just saying. But this thread is not about flaming iOS so bye lol

More apps at higher prices. I have NEVER gotten an apple product of any kind to function properly. They must despise me or something. Used Mac pros & get a repeated gray fail screen of death that doesn't go away & iphones that bootloop after I open the photo gallery, on an itouch I was just using the internet and and somehow after a few tilts, the screen orientation became permanently upside down. On a macbook pro I once opened iPhoto and the whole system rebooted and kernel panicked upon restarting. I despise them for all the problems I've had and their set at such a high price tag. Maybe I'm just very unlucky, but never had a good experience with apple. Android, linux, and windows (On a pc I built myself) have never served me wrong. xD

Twice over 7mbps and once upto 9142kbps here in Orlando on my Atrix 2.

I know lte isn't due here for a while but the Vivid is tempting.
