is there anyway to bring up the sim unlock screen without a foreign sim? I have only the one and can't figure out how to enter my unlock code.

Just registered to say that it worked on a Galaxy Gio (GT-5660) but had to use the 1st method, as on the 2nd method the phone kept saying it couldn't find the file or write it. With the first method everything worked like a charm!

Specs on my phone:
Samsung Galaxy Gio GT5660
Android version: 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.XXKS5 PORTUGAL TPH
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf.CL653753 root@DELL123 #1
Simlocked to: Vodafone Portugal

Thanks!

It works on my i5500 Thank You.
I used method with SDK android tools, I think to use this tutorial I need to have installed original drivers (KIES)? "link "
After install SDK tools I had to install (using SDK manager) sdk platform-tools.

Great tutorial!! Worked perfectly. I used method 2 and the hex editor showed the code -- I put the code into my mobile and presto! I am on (or was on!) tesco mobile. I purchased the phone yesterday. Rooted using the very simply SuperOneClick (link in tutorial) and that's it. Very very easy indeed. It seems a lot to read but actual procedure is very simply to follow. Thanks again!

edit - forgot to say - standard 2.2.1 rooted using superoneclick
