Thanks for the tip mate. Wanted to do something like this for a while but never thought it through. Going to now when I find the time.

Alright, I just got my battery in the mail and modded the door. The phone turns on and operates just fine! Now all I have to do is overcharge the battery a little bit and calibrate it, and then I'll post some results.

Here is something about how to get better wifi signal.
wifi works at 2.4Ghz, which means a good antenna should be 3.125cm length (1/4λ).
I soldered a 3.2cm copper wire at first, and installed a software called Wifi analyzer from android market. Connected to my wifi router.
Look at the signal strength on the screen, then cut a very very short part. Because 3.2cm is longer than the best length, the signal strength would go up.
Do it again and again until signal strength starts to go down.
Then you got the best wifi.

Notice: Don't touch the antenna while checking the signal strength.
Is aluminium foil better or a copper wire? I get about 40% less wifi signal after i cut the batterydoor and used aluminum foil... My foil is about 2cm, which is about the same length as the part that used to be in the battery door..

As he said you need to have the exact length, not just something similar in length.

And yes, copper, silver or gold are better (probably other metals too but those three i'm sure of)

i need 2 testers for a possible 15% fix

testers "must" use IceColdSandwich - 5.0.(they will flash a modified kernel)

1 tester should have 1900 mah battery, other one should have 1520 mah sensation battery

if anyone interested, just send a pm

I have not tested aluminum foil yet. With copper wire I got 70% wifi signal to the original. Using a case would reduce the signal slightly。

About the length:
our hand-made antenna has a lot of difference to the original one. such as shape, material, how you connect it to the phone...
I am not a RF expert so I can't figure out the best length for my copper wire antenna. the only way for me is trying.
In fact my final result is a bit longer than the original one but shorter than 3.125cm(1/4λ).
your aluminum foil antenna is in different material, different thickness, different width. maybe 2cm works well for the HTC battery door but not for yours.

by the way, how you connect aluminum foil to your phone?
I soldered the copper wire to the battery door's remaining gold(maybe copper) connector, and used smooth file to make the solder dot as small as possible.
then removed part of the phone's connector's plastic to let copper wire pass.

there are two contacts and we just set the foil over one of them. Then close the door so the foil has contact from both sides (from the door and the phone) and the door has contact to the phone via the other contact.

Ok, I've had the Evo 3D battery on my Inspire since November and it's still working very well. I can usually go 1.5 ~ 2 days on a single charge.

Update on the antenna:

I bought a piece of copper tape (on eBay for couple of bucks) and it is working much better than aluminum foil. At least one bar improvement at work and at home. I would say it's about as good as stock.

Will try taping a 4" copper piece diagonally across the back of the phone to see if that improves it even more.

The longer or shorter the length of the antenna will change the frequency it can pick up. theres a bit of theory and math to it, but just increasing area will both cause your radio chip to drive harder (lessening battery life) and cause it to get a poorer signal. the length and shape and in line inductor all have to be matched properly.
