Default No Data Connection - already replaced SIM

Ok, here's the deal. I bought a slightly used AT&T SGS II from a friend of mine. I rooted it (no custom ROM). At this point I noticed that I was getting no data connection. I did not notice if it worked before I rooted. I went to the AT&T store and got a new SIM card, which didn't help. My old SIM, and now the new one, both work for data in a Captivate and an Atrix. Looking for any ideas...

I'm guess his line was provisioned for 3G data, and att needed to change that to the 4G/HSPA+ data plan. That's what happened to me.

i-mate JAQ > HTC 8525 > iPhone 3G > iPhone 3GS (it was a dark time in my life, I was confused) > Palm Pre > HTC Aria > Samsung Captivate > LG Thrill > Samsung Focus > Samsung Galaxy S II (I777) > HTC One X > Samsung Galaxy Note II (I317) + HP TouchPad

Exactly. I didn't think I would have the problem, since I've been using an Atrix with that SIM and getting HSPA+ speeds for about a month now. Anyway, they swiched me over to a "4G" data plan and kept my grandfathered unlimited data as well. The guy in the store gave me a new SIM, but was clueless beyond that. Tech support on the phone had it fixed in about 10 minutes. Only took that long because he had to get a manager to put in the Unlimited data.
