The application does nothing other than to deploy some files.

Good news. This app works for me .
HTC Mozart developer unlocks student account (max 3 apps) build 7720 official mango, with no HTC Updates. Mine is unlocked carrier phone, asian rom I think, so I never got the htc update (I think htc updates only for european htc mobile phones)

Followed the instruction and tested installing registry editor 1.2... and definitely can sideload more than my previous max apps .
thanx

Thanx a lot.

I have got another question. now that I am interop unlocked, do I need to do anything to prevent unlock, because my student developer account will be expired around 2012 in march....

so the latest HTC updates probably changed/renamed the registry key.

find the changed key and there you go.

very promising though.

cheers.

OK. At a guess, the problem is caused by ApprovedListDB.db, a file which is used in ROMs to indicate the permissions of certain operations (I think). The problem is, I'm not a ROM chef; I don't know where that file goes or what happens to it, and I don't know if it's possible to change its policies on the device once the ROM is deployed.

Anybody able to chime in here? I'm looking for either more info (including corrections of anything I got wrong), suggestions of other ways that HTC broke this, or steps to resolve it. I would really appreciate anything that people can find; I'd be really sad to have this accomplishment go to waste.

One thing that *might* be possible with this is to copy files to the Windows directory. If the restrictions only block registry editing via provxml, but don't block file operations, than this technique could be chained into another to both provide interop-unlock and fix apps like TouchXplorer (if we're lucky).

@stryker09: An interesting idea. I suspect that it's not the case, though - people who are already interop-unlocked (and can therefore run registry editors) have said that the "test value" which the unlock is supposed to create (HKCU\Software\DeployProvXml:InteropUnlock) isn't being created. That suggests that this entire class of registry edit using Connection Setup no longer works, thanks to that <redacted> HTC update.

That said, that's the kind of thinking I need here - testable and fixable suggestions as to what might be wrong. Thanks, and keep them coming! Also since my phone really isn't an ideal test platform here (since I don't have those updates - TouchXplorer still working makes trying things immensely easier), it really helps if people verify things for me (like whether that test registry value gets creates created - on my phone, it does).

HTC Mozart 7740 with the last update.

Setup process worked also without error...

Value in the registry KEY:

HKCU\Software\DeployProvXml
VALUE: "LastOperation"
DATA: "file deployed" (String)

Again Interop-Lock.

Thanks for search a solution.
