Default [Q] Safe to use different charger?

I just found an old Blackberry charger that has a longer attached cord. I was wondering if it would be safe to use on the Vivid specifically.

Output Specs

HTC Vivid Charger: 5V, 1A

Blackberry Charger: 5V, 700 mA

It should work, but may take longer to charge. I used several different chargers including blackberry. If you look at computer USB port specs; it is rated at 5V 500ma. and that works fine.

Hope that helps...

This can be a bit of a thick subject for some. Assuming whatever charger you use is within spec, using the lower amperage setting should not do any damage, or make much of a difference at all, given the low variations amperage used. Best way (And I could get some retorts here.), you can preserve your battery is to let it drain down fairly far occasionally. (I do mine monthly, or try to remember to.) and also let your phone charge off occasionally. (I charge mine off about once a week, give or take.) It's old school, but been my experience it matters, even with Lion, etc.

Here is a link to a relevant thread you might find interesting:

"Charge off" is a term new to me. Could you explain what it means? Thanks.
