The skyrocket in it's own rights IS a top line phone. A 1.5ghz dual core CAN perform.
But joking aside it is a bastardized version of the ogsgsii.
Yes it can be customized and have roms built for it. But it's file structure and how it reads media files for themes is alot different than many phones. Even down to how it plays a bootanimation is different and completely unknown. It's definitely Samsung, but been raped with an unknown twist separating it from the majority of previous Samsung dev work (status bar toggles mods seem to be about 90% compatible and since made 100% compatible, so there's got to be a few others things)
With it being so different developers are going into it blind. They don't have roms that they can compare their work to if they're having problems. They don't have nearly compatible kernels from any other phone they could try patching to make compatible with the phone. And no, the tmobile SGSII doesn't count as it's nearly the same phone. Development for both are at the same speed.
Again though, that doesn't mean it can't be worked on and made much better. It does mean it will be alot harder and take alot longer to get where our phones already are.
It kills me when skyrocket users say the ogsgsii is old and outdated and the skyrocket is new. If that's the case they are insulting the skyrocket. That a 'new' phone *stock*, is the same or lower benchmarks as our 'old' phone *stock*. And that phone overclocked to a higher clock rating still doesn't beat an ogsgsii phone overclocked.
Yes it has lte, but check out how many are getting throttled who still have unlimited. There's a bunch that are getting 5% messages and they're only around 5 and 6gb's of usage.
Yes the skyrocket is an amazing phone in it's own rights. And I hope alot of dev work gets done on it and people like it.
My saying is: Android and sex are alot alike. Even bad android is still android.
