Any chance it may be the rom? I ran an AOKPCB nightly rom for about a week then one day it just randomly refused to make calls. If I tried to call it'd sit at the contact call menu as if it actually started calling. Though it wouldn't call out, I could cancel though. If I got a call it would ring until I unlocked the phone then it'd instantly hang up. So I now that roms can randomly just stop working, which is a little odd.

I've since flashed the previous rom I ran and not had any problems. Though it does sound like "quick charge" is stuck in the ON position.

so I tried stock gingerbread, still nothing and now I'm on that new miui v4 and still nothing.. womp!
its so strange when my phone died, I plugged it in and then poof it turns on by itself, doesnt charge and just dies. I have to turn it on, then plug it so i guess it charges like that. I dont get how this randomly just happens, I really think its a software issue.

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that software issues would not be shown that early as to turn on the phone by itself, I don't think software can affect that from being plugged in while dead, meaning its hardware of phone or cable...guessing uve tried different codes and different make cables?
Might be worth backing up all and restoring complete stock, if still no, to take to sprint for a new nexus bruh..

These pre boot issues sound more like a hardware issue now. My question now is, the cable used to charge the phone and connect via USB, is it the original or an aftermarket?

Edit : of course when I say hardware issue I'm not referring to the phone itself. A good example I had was a car charger I got for my old..... well... let's just say "uncreative name phone". In any case it was a hit and miss connection that sometimes worked.

joe have you tried a brand new cable? or have you tried moving one of your current cables up and down while its plugged in to see if there are any abnormalities? that behavior sounds like a hardware problem. is it still under warranty from samsung? for real if you havent yet, try a brand new cable. on my phone which i got in november (i think) of last year, with older cables, i actually have to hold them forcefully against the inside of the usb port of the phone for them to be recognized. ive had the best luck with belkin cables from target (and my mom's old palm pre cable which i ganked lol) they seem a little more substantial and so they have a better connection with the pins inside the USB port. IMO

I'm not sure if this has been said, but make sure you toggle off fast charge if you have it on before plugging it in to your USB port. That's the only time my PC won't recognizes my phone if fast charge is toggled on. I don't think its the kernel, because I've ran this bad boy since it was release on gingerbread & MIUI.

But if your fast charge is toggled off & still won't recognize your phone then I'm not sure what's up. Sorry..

But good luck finding the solution.
