Either put it in the ringtone directory or use the media player and play the song and hit menu and set as phone ringtone.

You can also use same folder structure on SD media/audio/ringtones and they'll be recognized same with SMS media/audio/notifications

You can also use an app, say ringdroid, which should move your trimmed song to the required directory.

Create a folder in external sdcard..name it ringtones.. Just copy your mp3 files to that folder... Simple..

Handcent SMS also has ringtones picker integrating itself in settings menu. So does builtin file manager/explorer.

download gosms pro from there u can choose ur ringtone for phone calls, messenger etc
