please understand I am completely ignorant, hence the question, but why use anything other than google navigation? what are the advantages/features?

google navigation requires data. if you are travelling in areas there is no signal those drop out and navigate you nowhere. sygic for example downloads the maps on sd card and uses those and requires no data at all. i use sygic on my tablet and it's awesome.

ok, gotcha will keep that in mind if I need to go somewhere I know there won't be signal (not often if ever when in FL)

on the phone it doesn't really matter nowadays. it's hard to find areas without signal. but on my tablet for example. it does not have any connectivity and i won't keep the wifi tethering enabled all the time so while driving, the tablet works great as a gps. even have a mount in the car to keep it where i can see it.

but enough about my tablet. back to energy rom thread stuff. love the rom

what am i doing wrong i have 4ext recovery unlocked with s-on i flash the rom then it gets stuck in boot and restarts ive cleared all partitions so what am i doing wrong

It doesn't matter if you have 4ext or cwr. You either need to s-off using the wire trick or s-on with a locked bootloader and flash ics ruu. There are very detailed instructions and are stickied. =)
