Default [Q] should root the galaxy note before upgrading it to 2.3.6?

Hi everyone, just wanna know should root the galaxy note before upgrading it to 2.3.6?

according to my reading of other instruction thread, there's no mention of root before flashing device. So no need to root before flashing? I'm just not very certain about that.

maybe it's a silly question.im newbie.
thx everyone

My rooted 2.3.5 got unrooted after the 2.3.6 update via Kies. So I'd update your phone 1st before root.
Current mobile devices: ipad 3 3G; Nexus 10; Nexus 4; Xperia Z

Flashing Stock Rom will unroot your device, so no point of rooting before flashing. check here for rooting instructions
